Rain Mountain Females

Bella
Ch. PR Hickory Hill Spring Rain HIC

Call name: Bella
OFA (not yet), CERF (not yet)
born:  August 2001
Sire:  Grand Ch. PR WoodsRunner Duncan (OFA Good)
Dam:  Ch. PR Rain Mountain Sebecca (OFA Fair)
Breeders: David and Elaine Bradbury, Hickory Hill Chinooks
Owners:  Pam Chambers (Spring Creek Chinooks) and Ginger Corley (Rain Mountain)

Bella represents the fifth generation of Rain Mountain Chinooks and we couldn't be more proud. Her dam, Ch. PR Rain Mountain Sebecca, was one of my favorite pups and she found the best home possible on the gorgeous farm (dating back to the 1700s) of Elaine and David Bradbury. When Becca was bred to Grand Ch. PR WoodsRunner Duncan, I knew that these pups would be very special.

My problem was that I had a house full of Chinooks already. But Pam Chambers of Spring Creek Chinooks had room for another pup in her heart and home. Pam liked Becca's breeding -- she owns one of Becca's half brother, Enatai Gold, known as Kolby -- and all I had to do was mention the pups and she was on a plane for the east coast. That may sound easy but Pam had just gotten out of a wheelchair after extensive foot surgery, not to mention that it was early October of 2001 and many people were nervous to fly. But Pam pulled off the flight, had a great visit with all our Chinook friends in Maine, and arrived at SeaTac Airport with a very calm Bella in a Sherpa bag.

Bella settled in at the Chambers home and quickly won a place in their pack consisting of Kolby, WoodsRunner Golden Brandy, and Brandy's daughter Mocha, and in their hearts. She has proven herself to be great with children, a necessity at the Chambers home which is full of Pam's grandchildren on a daily basis.

Bella started pulling with both the Spring Creek and Rain Mountain teams when she was about eight months old but has found her true niche with carting.  She loves to work right next to Pam, which is typical in carting.  In sledding and rigging the dog works quite a ways from the handler and Chinooks, with their strong bond to their humans, sometimes do better with carting where they can be close.  Bella is in heaven when she can pull the cart to the local grade school to pick up Pam's grandchildren.

Bella has done well in the show ring, or at least has since she learned to keep all four feet on the ground.  She finished her championship quickly and has been working on points towards her Grand Championship.  She also has two Best of Breeds under her belt, which is tough considering some of the dogs she has to compete with.  She also won the prestigious Rreserve Champion award at the 2003 Chinook National Specialty.

Decisions on breeding Bella will be made during 2004.
