Rain Mountain Studs

"Cost, convenience and show records are sometimes perceived as legitimate reasons by those who lack experience and knowledge. The best search for the right stud dog always includes knowledge about his traits, health history, temperament and the qualities seen in his offspring. Geography and economics have nothing to do with his genetics or his ability to compliment the strengths and offset the weaknesses of the bitch."

"Selecting Sires;" Dr. Carmen L. Battaglia

The Rain Mountain Direct Male Line

Though I have not been able to trace pedigrees completely back to the original Chinook himself, I have been able to recreate pedigrees back to the dogs of the Perry Greene era of the Chinook to the dogs I have with me today.

Perry Greene Kim

Perry Greene Savik

Perry Greene Riki
|
Perry Greene Fairbanks
|
Perry Greene Bering
|
Alder Patch Ningo
|
Singing Woods Cygnus
|
North Wind Kiska
|
U-WP Grand Ch. PR Rain Mountain Tonasket Thunder
|
PR Rain Mountain Yakama Pride (aka Moose)

Since the sire has only one Y chromosone to contribute, it is a given that his sons will carry his Y chromosone.  Therefore, Moose carries Thunder's Y chromosone, Thunder carries Kiska's, Kiska had the Y chromosone of Cygnus, all the way back to Perry Greene Kim and beyond.  This is why the Direct Male line is important to dog breeders when analyzing pedigrees.

The View From Rain Mountain

Selecting a stud to use with each litter takes a tremendous amount of time.  You'll find links here to the sires I've used over the years and those that I've bred myself.  I've also included two articles written originally for the Eventer (a Northwest canine events publication).  Studley Do-Right Does his Paperwork describes the responsibilities of a stud owner and includes sample stud contracts I have used.  If you are interested in using one of the Rain Mountain dogs at stud, this section is must reading as it describes our criteria for making decisions such as these.  Looking for Mr. Gooddog goes through the process of finding the right stud to use with a specific bitch.  Finding the RIGHT sire is far more important than simply using our own sires.  For this reason, Rain Mountain goes outside to other breeders for stud service just as often as we use our own.
