Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
from Rain Mountain Chinooks

I hope you have a wonderful holiday with family and friends. If you're in the neighborhood, feel free to stop by here at the Slug Ranch. I plan to spend Christmas Day here at home with my mother and one of my sisters while the rest of the family is in eastern Washington. We don't have enough snow in the Cascades yet for sledding so Colleen's pond and fountain had to stand in as our background this year. If all goes well, sledding will be interspersed with taking care of a new litter of puppies that are due in late January.  New Years Eve is always spent with my close friends Shannon, her daughter Sarah, and Carie. And as usual, since Shannon works the early shift on New Years Day, we'll celebrate on eastern time, so she gets enough sleep to start work at 5am.

A few tasteless joke cards always make things more amusing.  I think we need to go back many centuries and remember that this has always been a holiday of the winter solstice, celebrated by mankind even when we still lived in caves.  My humor hasn't grown any more sophisticated since so I'll share a couple funnies I've found recently.

and the photos of Christmas past . . . .

In 1994 there was Holly. Though coming up on her 3rd birthday, she was still a wild
and crazy pup capable of knocking the house down.  The fact that she'd been in
training classes since the day I'd got her didn't seem to have any
impact on that. Her energy level continued until she said goodbye to the world.

By the time Christmas 1995 rolled around, Holly had her first litter
and I made a good friend forever in Stephanie Broughton, whose
family took in one of Holly's pups, Misha. Yes, as a pup Thunder's
right ear did stick out for a while. Thank goodness it didn't last or
a few years later he wouldn't be the #1 Chinook in the country.

This photo here in 1998 and the one at right in 1999 took a
heck of a lot of cussing, swearing, threats, and bribing with
at least a whole box of dog treats if not two or three.  No, I
didn't attempt to do this alone.

Left to right: Leschi, Ladybug, Thunder, Holly, and
River the Australian Cattle Dog who belonged to my
then roommate.

Christmas of 2000 the household included Ladybug Jones,
Klickitat, Thunder, and Holly. Right, Tat Tat sneaked in for a
surprise face wash.

Another favorite from 2001. The hearth of myold house in Kirkland,
Thunder standing and Lady lying down.

Christmas of 2000 what was then a very small pup went looking for presents.  He later grew up to be a 98 pound dog aptly called Moose.

Fawn from the 2002 Rental Litter grew up to be Taaku

Christmas 2004 at at the Elliot Bay Marina
with downtown Seattle skyline behind that.
Lolo was a baby and Taaku was a slim and
trim teen.
