Ch. PR Hurricane Katsuk Rain Song Katsuk is loved by a big group of people, all sure that she will be a success in life, no matter what she takes on. She was born in South Carolina at Hurricane Chinooks to mom dog Ch. PR Hurricane Electra and dad UWP Grand Ch. PR Rain Mountain Tonasket Thunder CGC HCT. She and her littermates traveled to Seattle with Joyce Maley and Carie Taylor when Carie moved to the Seattle area in the summer of 2003 and Joyce came up to attend the Chinook National Specialty. At such a young age, she couldn't participate in the activities but she and her littermates did have a great time staying with vet tech Debby Grady. At eight weeks old, the pups were graded by both Colleen McDaniel and Melissa Knapp, skilled puppy evaluators and breeders (Irish Water Spaniels for Colleen and Bearded Collies for Melissa) along with other Chinook breeders. Katsuk was by far the biggest pup in her litter and was a bit gawky as a child. Hence before being permanently placed, she joined Bear Creek Chinooks and the family of Richard Strle for a few months as she grew up. Though Strles loved her, they had a few too many dogs around the house already so Katsuk ventured back north when she was about five months old.
By this age she had grown into a beautiful young Chinook girl.
Carie and Ginger Corley (of Rain Mountain Chinooks, whom Carie roomed with during her first year in the Northwest) fell madly in love with her and didn't want her
to go back south since her bloodline would be valuable in this
area. Enter Anne Harvey. Anne was looking for a special
companion and Katsuk fit the bill. Anne has experience with
animals of all types and was open to working with Carie (and Ginger to
a lesser extent) on a co ownership and true "co parenting" of
Katsuk. Two years old in June of 2005, Katsuk has matured into a
gorgeous dog. She began showing in earnest during the summer of
2005 and quickly climbed to #3 in the country with a long string of
Best of Breed awards.
